Playing strategy games without a computer mouse can be awkward, and the apparent lack of interest from console gamers provides little incentive to port them. And yet, one of the most popular competitive games in the world today is an RTS, and three or four others are in a genre that branched off from real-time strategy. This classic real-time strategy game, released in 1998 is still one of the most popular releases of all time. Since RTS games are now somewhat of a niche genre and most are specifically made for mouse control, there isn't much of a reason to bring them to home consoles.įinding good RTS games for home consoles can be difficult, as many are PC exclusives and simply don't translate well to other platforms. Most of these games heavily rely on a mouse for their controls, so playing them on a regular controller doesn't feel natural. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can buy a mouse and keyboard, but there are very few games for those systems that play well on that kind of set up.
